TOP FUEL MOTORCYCLE DRAG RACER INDUCTED INTO AUSTRALIAN MOTORSPORT HALL OF FAME

Eight (8) time Australian Top Fuel Motorcycle Drag Racing Champion, Chris Matheson, has become the first Top Fuel Motorcycle rider to be inducted into the Australian Motorsport Hall of Fame.

Matheson was inducted at a special ceremony, held at the Australian F1, on 13 March 2025 in Melbourne.

Matheson, a veteran of 63 years of age, defied the odds and became the first to crack into the five (5) second zone, over a quarter mile, in excess of 232 MPH (373 KPH).

Matheson’s career was nothing short of complete dominance from beginning to end.

At speeds in excess of 241 MPH (385 KPH) on two (2) wheels, the sport he excelled in was high risk and spectacular.

Matheson, who started Top Fuel Motorcycle Racing at the age of 50 years old, said

“The Nitro Voodoo Team and I set the bar in our sport here in Australia, and I hope we have inspired many more young riders, and Teams, to better our performance and change history on their journey as we have- keeping our sport alive for all to enjoy.”

Matheson held the Australian National record for his entire racing career, of more than 10 years, despite several near fatal incidents.  He went on to hold the track record of every Group One Track across Australia.

Matheson’s Nitro Voodoo Race Team’s win/loss record was in excess of 80%, dominating the sport across Australia.

Matheson’s highlight reel included the milestone of being the first in Australia to run the Holy Grail five (5) second pass, not yet achieved in Australia, at the time.

Matheson achieved the goal at Sydney Dragway on 6 May 2023, clocking a staggering 5.92 seconds, at over 232 MPH, in front of a huge crowd.

Matheson retired from riding his 2,000 horsepower Top Fuel Motorcycle machine that day.

Matheson said “It’s time.  We have won eight (8) from 10 Championships we competed in, despite the challenges and incidents.

I look forward to seeing the next generation better our history and continue to strive for winning results.”

Matheson is the first Top Fuel Motorcycle Drag Racer, in Australian history, to be inducted into the Australian Motorsport Hall of Fame, which includes such greats as Jack Brabham, Mick Doohan, Mark Webber and Peter Brock to name a few.
